1 Yr Anniversary: Exclusive Interview with Carlina of Allergic To Vanilla

Welcome! Today The COPE Collection turns one! Huge thanks to those in the beginning who encouraged me to get started, and my recent followers and readers who encourage me daily to keep going. I appreciate you!

In the spirit of blogging, I wanted to reach out to those who have perfected the craft and tested the blogging waters. As promised this post will feature an exclusive interview with one of San Francisco's top fashion bloggers! She's been featured in Lucky Magazine and is the sweetheart behind the blog Allergic to Vanilla. Carlina, is warm, kind, and not to mention stylish. If you haven't already, please check out her blog linked here.

Blog titles tell a story! What's the meaning behind the title of your blog?

I'm allergic to plain Jane fashion! Prior to blogging, I was in aviation and would come home, take off my nasty shirt, pants and steel toed boots and put on glitter and sparkles. I wanted to blog about it so everyone could see what I wore after my boring 9 to 5. I didn't want something regular, and wanted to be different. The blog has definitely evolved; a lot less glitter, but that's how I came across the name.

What inspired you to start blogging?

Having worked at NASA in a male dominated environment and wearing a uniform there was a lack of creativity and femininity. With a few push from friends and questions about latest trends and whatnot, I just went for it! It's been five years now, and there's been some ups and downs but it's what I do now.

It's been said that fashion says something about you without the exchange of words. How would you describe your style?

That's what I say all the time! I tell people who I am without opening my mouth, by what I wear. I'm actually an introvert, but you wouldn't guess it by what I wear. My fashion says I'm sort of eclectic. If I didn't know myself I'd think she's outgoing, confident, and bold. But it's not what you wear, it's how you feel. Wear the clothes and feel good.

What is your fashion inspiration?

Traveling inspires what I wear and want to wear. I like taking bits of me, bits of San Francisco, and the places I've been and mashing them together into my fashion. When I lived outside the city I would people watch at Union Square! So many people visit the city and I would watch over my lunch break to be inspired by what was around me.

What is your favorite fashion magazine?

My dad actually subscribed me to about 25 fashion magazines, so I get quite a few. I like Vanity Fair not really for the fashion, but for the articles. Brings me from refined to the fashion. People Style Watch is one of my favorites, and the one I really look forward to getting in the mail. It's affordable, fun, fresh and relateable.

What is one of your go-to favorite fashion item(s) and why?

Signature Carlina pieces...I have this Philip Lim bag I wear all the time. It's the 3.1 Pashli Satchel, it's my number one especially if it's a big bag day. If you spend lots of money on it, you'll definitely be wearing it. That goes for shoes and bags.

Would you rather: heels or flats?

Flats because it's San Francisco. Love a good pointed, chic-er look!

Would you rather: makeup or handbag?

Handbag, because I need stuff! I can wear sunglasses all day if I need too.

What is one aspect about you your readers would be surprised to hear about?

That I used to fly planes! There were three other women in my program, it is a rarity.

Name three of your go-to stores and/or brands?

I'm obsessed with Zara and J Crew. Definitely shop on sale, but there's always classic pieces to be found. Recently been interested in Misguided the European company.  I think you can find some classic pieces there, but there's lots on the site that's on trend.

Where do you see your blog in the next 5 years?

Keep it growing, it can only get better from here! I don't have any specific plans, but the blog could use a "face-lift" with a few little updates here and there. The goal is to nurture it and see; will keep pitching myself, and collaborating with others to better the blog. That's what it's all about!

Thank you so much for tuning in to this one year anniversary post! Do check out the brains and beauty behind the blog Allergic to Vanilla. Follow Carlina on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterst, and of course her blog at Allergic To Vanilla.
